Mamu Ensemble Together comes to life thanks to a Heritage Canada grant

An intercultural exchange project in Sept-Îles and Trois‑Rivières

Trois-Rivières – Sept-Îles, January 30, 2020 – An intercultural-exchange project
entitled MAMU | ENSEMBLE | TOGETHER aiming to create and strengthen positive social ties between cultural communities in Canada and abroad will be held in Côte-Nord and Mauricie at the end of this winter. This 10-day musical project will be held March 10-20 in Mani-utenam, near Sept-Îles, and March 22-24 in Trois-Rivières.

La Boîte interculturelle, an organisation based in Saint-Adelphe that is dedicated to
creating bridges between communities, is proud to announce the financial support of
the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Community Support, Multiculturalism, and AntiRacism Initiatives Program for the MAMU | ENSEMBLE | TOGETHER intercultural exchange project organized in partnership with Innu Takuaikan Uashat Mak Maniutenam and Pasa Musik.

This multicultural happening will bring together three unique artists: Shauit, an Innu
author-composer-singer from Mani-utenam in northeastern Quebec, Salif Sanou
(Lasso), a multi-instrumentalist artist and singer from Burkina Faso, and Saulo Olmedo
Evans, a percussionist and multi-instrumentalist from Panama. Together they will
participate in various local activities to promote diversity and intercultural
understanding.

The musicians will then head to Mauricie, where they will meet with schools and
community groups. They will share their vision and discuss issues related to
multiculturalism. In coming weeks, a press conference will provide more detail on the
programming for this original event, one that is sure to inspire cultural communities to
create their own happenings. We would like to thank our partners, the latest of which
has just been added, the famous Sept-Îles troupe, Tam ti delam.

Overview

Shauit is an Innu author-composer-singer from Mani-utenam in northeastern Quebec. Shauit sings in French, English and in Innu-aimun.
Salif Sanou ‘Lasso’ was born in a musical family in the Kossi province of northwestern Burkina Faso. He plays the balafon, doum-doums, tamani, bara, djembe, the Fula flute (tambin or sereendu), and more.
Saulo Olmedo Evans is a multi-instrumentalist percussionist from Panama who grew up in Montreal. Between 2005 and 2008, his drums took him on a musical learning journey following his Latin American roots: Panama, Cuba, Brazil, Colombia. Saulo was then seduced by the colours and aesthetics of Indian culture. With renowned master Pandit Ishwar Lal Mishra, Saulo studied the tablas in India from 2011 to 2015.

Innu Takuaikan Uashat Mak Mani-utenam ensures the population’s well-being by providing services that meet the people’s expectations and needs in various areas.
